Information Equinox at Chichen Itza
At sunset, the sun casts its light on the pyramid, and the shadows fall along the staircase, forming the body of the serpent that connects with the sculpted head at the base of the pyramid—its most striking moment. It is a spectacular phenomenon that showcases the meticulous architectural planning the Mayans dedicated to this main structure of the Chichen Itzá archaeological site.
A guided tour of Cobá will be conducted, lasting approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, followed by free time to climb its main pyramid. Afterwards, we’ll visit the nearby Multun-Ha cenote, where you’ll enjoy 45 minutes of free time to swim, followed by another 45 minutes for lunch.
With Mayan Riviera Tours, you’ll take part in a two-hour guided visit of Chichen Itzá, then stay to witness the sunset and observe the equinox—an awe-inspiring event that only occurs twice a year at this iconic site. Let us take you to experience this magnificent phenomenon firsthand.
